Helping construction ensure the efficient use of alternative raw materials

  • Do you use mineral by-products within your products?

  • Are you thinking about using mineral by-product in your products?

  • Are you looking for greater flexibility in the raw materials that you use ?

If you answer " yes " to any of these questions, then this stakeholder event will be of interest to you.

All resources whatever their source, need to be characterised and understood to ensure that they possess the right properties for their intended end use.
The objective of this project (funded by DEFRA), is to assess what type of key information is needed about alternative materials for use in construction products from both the supplier's and user's point of view. It is also assessing at what stage in this exchange process such data needs to be available.

The characterisation framework being developed under the project will assist industries to determine the suitability for a potential partnership where a waste source is available and a potential outlet has been identified. It will interest manufacturers of building materials who wish to broaden the feedstock materials they use to meet legislative or customer requirements for recycled content.

MIRO is pleased to announce the agenda for the second International Metals and Mining Research Advisory Panel (IMMRAP) Workshop which will be held at the Hotel Silken Berlaymont in Brussels on 21 November.

The second IMMRAP workshop will build on the ideas and issues raised at the inaugural meeting which was attended by delegates from industry and academia. In order to communicate with the minerals industry on a truly European level MIRO has sought to locate this meeting in the heart of the EU.

A number of diverse invited presentations will be made in the morning session. The day will also include a review of the on-going European Technology Platform for Sustainable Mineral Resources (ETP-SMR) in which MIRO is playing a supporting role.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to round-table discussions of topics of significance to the sector with the specific aim of identifying areas where collaborative research opportunities are required.
