Winning Business in Libya. A Practical Guide for
UK Companies.
Park Lane Hotel,
Central London.
Libya is “a country where the post-conflict
reconstruction programme is going to require spending of
$200 billion over a ten-year period." Lord Green,
UK Trade Minister, speaking at Rebuilding Libya:
Opportunities for British Business, December 2011.
Book a place at
Winning Business in Libya: - A Practical Guide for UK
Companies taking place on 14th May 2012 at the Park
Lane Hotel, London.
This new conference has been especially designed as an
A-Z guide on how to win business in Libya. In particular
the event focuses on offering strategies and advice that
will enable British companies to position themselves so
that they are well placed to win the contracts that will
begin to be tendered after the election in June.
To this end His Excellency Dr Mahmoud Fetais,
Minister of Industry, National Transitional Council
(NTC), Libya will outline the NTC’s strategy and its
expectations for the rebuilding of the country. Key
points he will cover include:
- What are Libya’s economic priorities?
- What are the short-term opportunities for
UK businesses?
- What are the longer-term opportunities?
- What will happen to existing contracts?
- Where does the Minister think that the
biggest opportunities will be?
Moreover, given that the existing Libyan rules for
joint ventures, which require 75% of employees to be
local will be retained, the conference will help British
businesses identify effective approaches to develop
local relationships, as well as identifying contracts
that are available for tender.
It is generally recognised that there is a narrowing
window of opportunity for firms to ensure that they are
in a position to win contracts and this conference is
timed just before elections take place in Libya. As
Raouf Ghali, Group President, Hill International said:
“There are major opportunities from now until
September …. Anyone who wants to be in Libya should be
there now. Once the newly elected Government comes in
the speed at which companies will be expected to go
forward will be a very fast pace”
Although there are great opportunities in Libya, and the
recent reopening of the stock exchange underlines the
path to stability it would be a mistake not to recognise
that the political and security outlook for the country
remains uncertain and that a number of factors will
impact upon the Libyan business environment. These will
be addressed by examining the current political
environment and hotspots such as security considerations
and corruption risks.
